About
About 75% of the traditional media items I produce are portraits (pencil drawings, water-colour and acrylic paintings, ink sketches), often of pets. I've opted for a mostly photo-realist style but modify this depending on my client's wishes - sometimes a more folk-art style is wanted, adding more texture and emotion to a work. I prefer to reference art from photos of the person, animal, building, or landscape. Some people say this can produce a flatter result than in-person reference material being sketched but I find this isn't the case for me, it's down to how well you can visualize something and the quality of the reference images.Although I ship around the world I do have to take any special factors, such as import taxes/tariffs and the remote locations of some clients, into account when shipping costs are calculated. My process is to talk with my client about their requirements via email, and/or occasionally via a Zoom call. WhatsApp and Facebook messaging are also options. Transfer of reference images can be via DropBox, Google Drive or email. In-progress scans or photos can be sent at regular intervals (depending on suitability of material), then a final high res scan or photo will be taken before the traditional media version is sent to my client.
